Kara is at her worst after her time in the Phantom Zone

Now that Superman & Lois has wrapped up its first season, Clark's Kryptonian cousin Kara (Melissa Benoist) is flying back into action to conclude her sixth and final season.

“Every day is a roller coaster,” Benoist admits, as he brings Supergirl closer to her end. "It's good, bad, bitter and sweet and all things." It's also been an eternity since we've seen our girl!

The series took a break in May to accommodate COVID-related delays, just as Kara was being released from months in the hellish prison of the Phantom Zone. “This [trauma] is going to take some time to be undone and healed,” Benoist predicted. "What she went through was pretty crazy, so yeah, I think it's perhaps the worst moment fans will see Kara."

The bright side, Benoist says, is that Kara reunited with her father Zor-El (Jason Behr) while in captivity and that he was also saved during a rescue mission led by Kara's human sister Alex (Chyler Leigh ). Now it's up to the daughter to teach her father how to fit into the Earth. “He doesn't fit well,” says Benoist, with a laugh. “Jason is fantastic and this is a lovely story that we can explore.”

The CW drama returns to start saying goodbye on August 24th.

They better seize the time, because while things look peaceful now in National City, Benoist suggests that "there's a big threat on the horizon that's [connected] with the Phantom Zone." And, she adds, "I would never rule out the possibility of the return of Lex Luthor [Jon Cryer] …."
